Biographical Sketch
Curtis D. Black, R.Ph., Ph.D.


Curtis D. Black is Distinguished University Professor - Emeritus at The University of Toledo and Vice President for Finance for the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. He also serves his profession as Executive Director of NABP/AACP District IV and as Faculty-in-Residence with the Ohio Pharmacists Association.

Dr. Black received his B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Toledo in 1974, followed by his Master’s (1976) and Ph.D. (1978) degrees from Purdue University. He completed an ASHP-Accredited Residency Program at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo MI in 1976. He served on the faculty in the Department of Pharmacy Practice in the College of Pharmacy at Purdue from 1978-1990, and was Associate Head of the Department from 1985-1990. Dr. Black joined the faculty of The University of Toledo as Merck Professor of Clinical Pharmacy in 1990 and during his tenure held positions of Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, Chair of the Pharmacy Practice Department and Director of CPE programs. Over his career, Dr. Black published over 50 papers of research and practice interest and was awarded seven Outstanding College Faculty/Teacher awards and an Outstanding University Teacher award from The University of Toledo in 1997. In 2010, Dr. Black was recognized by American Pharmacists Association with the APhA-APPM Merit Award for Excellence and by Ohio Pharmacists Association with the Keys Award. He was also named a distinguished alumnus from both The University of Toledo and Purdue University Colleges of Pharmacy.

Dr. Black was inducted into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi at the University of Toledo in 1973. Upon his return to Toledo, he served the local chapter as scholarship chair, secretary/treasurer, and Chapter President. He was appointed to the Investment Committee in 2005, and served as chair of that committee from 2007-2010. He was elected Vice President for Finance in 2010, and was re-elected to that position in 2012.
