The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi Announces Partnership with NIXTY

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi—the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines—today announced it has entered into a partnership with NIXTY, a global online learning platform, to promote the Society’s national service initiative.

The new partnership is aimed at providing an open-source learning platform for the Society’s more than 100,000 active members to share their wide-ranging expertise in a variety of formats.

“We at Phi Kappa Phi look forward to our partnership with NIXTY in developing our national service initiative,” said Dr. Ray Sylvester, Society president-elect and 2010-2012 chair of the national service initiative task force. “We believe NIXTY will provide the platform for dissemination of our members’ expertise in a variety of topical areas, beginning with some of our proven literacy projects. We believe this partnership will go a long way in fulfilling both the Society’s love of learning and its desire to be of service to others.”

“NIXTY is incredibly excited to be partnering with Phi Kappa Phi in support of their service initiative,” said NIXTY President Glen Moriarty. “We look forward to leveraging the Society''s diverse areas of expertise and passion for service with our platform to enact meaningful change in the world.”

To launch the partnership, recipients of Phi Kappa Phi’s Literacy Grants were provided with the ability to share their literacy project models with both members and non-members of the Society seeking to implement similar programs in their own communities.

“NIXTY supports service initiatives in an important way by supporting the sharing and planning of projects,” said Dr. Kathleen Tice, Phi Kappa Phi member and assistant professor at The University of Texas at Arlington. “The NIXTY platform provides easy, broad access to information. The flexible format also can be helpful for users.”

Tice—who shared her literacy project using the platform—continued, “I have been able to present a video that shows a service-learning project rather than solely describe it. I also can include information that I have learned over time that could be useful for those beginning service projects of their own.”
