Create Your Story with Merit

Have you heard about Phi Kappa Phi’s member achievement program, Merit? If not, here’s your chance!

The Merit program, implemented in 2013, allows Phi Kappa Phi to create and publish personalized stories about members’ achievements such as being initiated, receiving an award or grant from the Society, becoming a chapter officer and much more.

Once granted an achievement, members can customize their online Merit profile with a photo, activities, work experience, awards, and affiliations. Merit also makes it easy to share these achievements with family and friends on social media. Consider it a virtual résumé!

If you haven’t received a Merit profile (anyone initiated before March 2013) and would like to take advantage the program and its many benefits, email news@phikappaphi.org with your name and member ID number.

Want more information? Click here to learn more about the Merit program and visit the Phi Kappa Phi Merit Page to see the latest member achievements. Stay tuned to social media, especially on Mondays, as we post tips, FAQs, stories and more using #MeritMonday.

Make an Impact on Giving Tuesday

Join us on December 1, 2015, as we celebrate Giving Tuesday—a global day of giving that recognizes generosity worldwide. Now in its fourth year, Giving Tuesday celebrates the act of giving back on the Tuesday following Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

This year, Phi Kappa Phi will participate in the Giving Tuesday movement for the first time, and we hope you will consider joining us.

On this special day, from midnight to 11:59 p.m. CST, you can celebrate Giving Tuesday by making a gift to the Phi Kappa Phi Foundation. All gifts, no matter the size, will open doors of opportunity to members both near and far. Your generous gifts will help deserving students and members realize their educational and career goals, from study abroad to graduate school to lifelong learning.

Join us on Giving Tuesday by:
  • Making a gift to the Phi Kappa Phi Foundation on December 1.
  • Following us on social media for #GivingTuesday updates.

Excellence in Innovation Award Deadline is December 10

In September, Phi Kappa Phi launched its Excellence in Innovation Award. The new $100,000 award, given once per biennium, will recognize a college and university for its achievements in finding powerful answers to important local, regional, national, or global challenges.

While Phi Kappa Phi has pursued its mission of recognizing and promoting academic excellence since its founding in 1897, until now it has not played a significant role of any sort in the national conversation on higher education.

We seek to change that by doing what we do best—recognizing and promoting excellence. Since 1933, Phi Kappa Phi has awarded fellowships and grants to members and students on our chapter campuses.

Currently, we award more than $500,000 annually through programs that last year recognized over 270 individuals.

But we have never had an award for institutions until now.

The Society will present the first Excellence in Innovation Award in 2016 to an institution of higher learning that uses innovative and substantive solutions to achieve meaningful, measurable outcomes to improve the lives of others and create systemic large-scale change.

The application period for colleges and universities to apply for the Excellence in Innovation award is currently open and will close December 10. To learn more about the award including award criteria, eligibility, and timeline details, visit www.PhiKappaPhiInnovation.org.
