The 411 on Merit

As you’ve surely heard by now, Phi Kappa Phi uses Merit to promote the many achievements of its members. So, how exactly does it work?
  1. You accomplish something great such as getting initiated into the Society, receiving a Phi Kappa Phi award or grant or being elected as a chapter officer.
  2. Society Headquarters creates a personalized story tailored to you and your achievement.
  3. You receive an email from news@phikappaphi.org with instructions on how to claim your very own Merit profile. See a sample profile here.
  4. Your local newspapers also receive a copy of the personalized story in the form of a press release.
  5. You brag about your accomplishments by sharing it on Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn using the ‘Share’ function located on your Merit page.
  6. You customize your Merit profile with a photo and additional achievements, activities and work experience. Consider it a virtual résumé!
  7. You accomplish other great things and receive additional Phi Kappa Phi-branded badges. See examples of the different badges here
If you haven’t claimed your Merit profile yet, do so today! To learn more about the program including how to request a Merit page, click here.

Phi Kappa Phi Installs Chapter 335 at Caldwell University

Phi Kappa Phi will install its 335th chapter at Caldwell University today, April 13.

The installation of the Caldwell chapter comes after a thorough chartering process and approval from the Society’s board of directors. To be eligible, an institution must be a regionally accredited four-year college or university with an established reputation of excellence and an expressed commitment to upholding the values of the Society.

“Phi Kappa Phi is pleased to welcome Caldwell University to our growing community of scholars,” said Society Executive Director Dr. Mary Todd. “Caldwell’s commitment to excellence is evident in the transformative changes of the past few years and in its determined focus on collaborative learning and community partnerships.”

Officers elected by the chartering group to serve the newly installed chapter include President Dr. William Velhagen, Jr., President-elect Lynne Alleger, Treasurer Maria Miceli, Secretary Rachel Carey and Public Relations Officer Dr. Francine Del Vecchio.

Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship Applications Due April 15

Since the naming of the first group of Phi Kappa Phi Fellows more than 80 years ago, the Society’s flagship program has continued to grow. But one thing remains constant—the program’s emphasis on honoring academic excellence nationwide. Each year, Phi Kappa Phi awards 51 Fellowships of $5,000 each and six at $15,000 each to members entering their first year of graduate or professional study.

The deadline for chapters to submit their local nominee for the 2016 Fellowship competition is Friday, April 15. To enter the competition, chapters must submit a completed packet with all supporting materials including the nominee’s Fellowship application, official academic transcript(s), three letters of recommendation, work sample(s) and standardized test scores.

For more details on submitting a Fellowship applicant, click here.

If you have additional questions about the Fellowship program, contact Kelli Partin at kpartin@phikappaphi.org or 800.804.9880, ext. 235.
