Featured Fellow: Megan Hunt

Phi Kappa Phi’s Featured Fellow for March is Megan Hunt, a 2017 Marcus L. Urann Fellow. Megan was awarded the Urann Fellowship as an undergraduate at Clemson University and went on to pursue an M.D. at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

As an undergraduate, Megan pursued a degree in biochemistry with minors in modern languages and political science, and set her sights on a career in medicine and policy. She participated in research projects, shadowed medical professionals in the U.S., and volunteered in Peru, Nicaragua and Uganda. In addition, she rallied on Capitol Hill and met with local congressman on issues relating to healthcare access. These interactions intensified her desire to help serve those who lack access to healthcare as both a physician and leader of policy change. She plans to continue serving as a voice in the fight for healthcare access.

The deadline to apply for one of 57 Phi Kappa Phi Fellowships is April 16, 2018. The Society will award six $15,000 awards and 51 $5,000 awards to students nationwide.

Since its creation in 1932, the Fellowship Program has become one of the Society's most visible and financially well-supported endeavors, allocating $345,000 annually to deserving students for first-year graduate or professional study. The competition is open to all active Phi Kappa Phi members who meet the eligibility requirements.

“It is such a great honor to receive the Urann Fellowship,” shared Megan. “I am so thankful for the support I received from my Clemson chapter and for the opportunity that Phi Kappa Phi has provided me.”

Each active Phi Kappa Phi chapter may endorse one candidate from among its local applicants to compete Society-wide for a fellowship. The national deadline for chapters to submit an applicant is April 16. Chapter deadlines vary.
