Love of Learning Deadline is April 1

Need funding to attend a conference, support dissertation research, or pay for textbooks? Apply for a Love of Learning Award.

Available to active Phi Kappa Phi members, Love of Learning Awards help fund post-baccalaureate studies and/or career development including graduate or professional studies, doctoral dissertations, continuing education, travel related to teaching/studies and more.

One hundred awards, at $500 each, will be distributed during Session A. The deadline to submit applications is April 1.

Past winners shared how the award helped them with research, continuing education, travel expenses, and professional development.

Travel Expenses
Christina Sharkey, graduate research assistant at Oklahoma State University
The award helped Christina travel to the International Neuropsychological Society Annual Meeting. “Attending conferences is crucial to expanding my knowledge and involvement in the field, and this award will help me to afford the wonderful opportunities offered by a primary conference,” shared Christina.

Research
Joslyn Johnson, doctoral student at Texas State University
Joslyn used the funds to cover expenses associated with her dissertation research. “The best part of Phi Kappa Phi is the support given through mentorship opportunities, professional development, and financial support,” she said. “Receiving the Love of Learning Award is a tremendous blessing.”

Continuing Education
Phil Mauermann, engineering manager at Wisconsin Public Service
Phil’s award will help him complete an MBA at St. Norbert College. He appreciates the Society’s commitment to recognizing student achievements. “Whether it comes in the form of a financial grant, email congratulations, certificate, or pat on the back, every member of Phi Kappa Phi can be proud of their accomplishments,” he said.

Professional Development

Teresa Shoemaker, intern at the Atlantic Council
Teresa used the award to support her professional development at a Washington, DC-based think tank. In addition to pursuing her passions of international relations and security, Teresa added, “The skills I am honing at the Atlantic Council, such as research, writing, and editing, will benefit me in graduate school and in my future career.”
