Phi Kappa Phi Announces Scholar, Artist, and Distinguished Service Recipients

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi today announced the recipients of its 2022-2024 Phi Kappa Phi Artist, Phi Kappa Phi Scholar, and Phi Kappa Phi Ray Sylvester Distinguished Service awards. Given once a biennium, the awards honor individuals who have demonstrated the ideals of the Society through their lifelong activities, achievements and scholarship. Each award highlights the academic and professional accomplishments of Phi Kappa Phi members who are renowned in their field.

The recipients are:

• Alexander Capron, University Professor at the University of Southern California, is the 2022-2024 recipient of the Phi Kappa Phi Scholar Award. Capron received the award for his expertise in teaching and research in bioethics, health policy and public health. At USC, he occupies the Scott H. Bice Chair in Healthcare Law, Policy and Ethics at the Gould School of Law, is a Professor of Medicine and Law at the Keck School of Medicine and co-directs USC’s Pacific Center for Health Policy and Ethics. Capron's publications include more than a dozen books and 300 articles and book chapters which address ethical issues in medicine, research, healthcare and public health law and policy from local, state, national and global perspectives. His writings have been assigned to medical and law students across the United States.
• Greg Sanders, Regents Professor of Music and coordinator of theory/composition studies at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, is the 2022-2024 recipient of the Phi Kappa Phi Artist Award. Sanders received the award for his career accomplishments as a professor, musician and composer and his scholarly achievements. Sanders' career as an artist and scholar spans decades and includes performances around the world as well as his academic work at A&M-Kingsville. His music has been called "powerful" by the New York Times, is in demand both in this country and abroad and has been featured on National Public Radio, CBS' "Osgood File" and performed on almost every continent and in all 50 states.
• Lynn Hagan, a licensed therapist and consultant, is the 2022-2024 recipient of the Phi Kappa Phi Ray Sylvester Distinguished Service Award. Hagan received the award for her outstanding dedication to service extending beyond academia. Much of Hagan's volunteer work has focused on social justice, equity and education for women and girls. Her work has spanned the globe and found her serving others from her home state of Texas to Kuwait.
